No. 110

Answer The Phone!

If you haven't already gotten a call about coming to the reunion, you will be soon! Registration chair Margaret Colden has enlisted the help of several classmates to organize a recruiting phone tree to encourage classmates who haven't registered for our 30th reunion next month to do so.

So, please don't hang up! It's important for us all to remember the real reason for this season and that's to reconnect and have fun. Heed the call peeps!

Extended Memories

Lauren Jones who is editing this year's souvenir booklet has extended the deadline to 31mar. To access the survey, please go to www.surveymonkey.com/Ubiquity. The passcode is our graduation day: 05111980.

Dr. Oz Trying To Help One Of Our Own

Hopefully some of you caught Rick Mahorn's appearance on Dr. Oz Monday. Rick is struggling with weight and health issues and has solicited the help of the TV doc to overcome them. He's now weighing in at 392 pounds. Let's rally around our brother and provide him with the only medicine we know that works all the time--prayer.

In Case You Missed It

Michele Cheek's daughter Joy closed out her stellar career as a forward on the Duke women's basketball team Monday with a heartbreaking, 51-48, loss to Baylor in the NCAA Regional Finals in Memphis, Tenn. Joy scored 7 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.

The Lady Blue Devils started their NCAA tourney run with a 72-37 drubbing of our own Lady Pirates, winners of the MEAC championship.

Decisions, Decisions

As previously reported it appears that Kenneth & Francine Boone's daughter Christine will have her choice of med schools to attend. She's been accepted into the top four med schools in the country according to US News & World Report. They are: Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Penn and Washington U. of St. Louis. Her papa is hopeful that she'll stick close to home and decide between JHU and Hopkins. Congrats!

Check Miki & Mo Out This Week

Miki Turner's JET magazine cover story on Mo'Nique hits news stands this week. The interview took place just before her Oscar win and includes comments from comedienne/actress Kym Whitley, who just happens to be David Jett's first cousin!

Mo's son Shalon is also a rising sophomore at Hampton.

Also, JET will be all over the Barack Obama appearance at Hampton on May 9, which means the reunion weekend has turned into a working weekend for Miki.

Condolences

Our deepest sympathies go out to Greg Lewis who lost his father on Sunday, March 28.

The services will be held Friday, April 2, at the Union Baptist Church, 301 Pennington Ave., Trenton, NJ 08618 at 11 a.m. Viewing will start at 9 a.m.

Mini Reunion

Andre DeBose and his wife Claudia, caught up with Dyanne Boone Baldwin and Miki Turner during a recent trip to New York to attend a Jack & Jill convention with their son Elliott, who will join his big brother Brenden at Hampton in the fall. Miki was there to do interviews for her book and attend the Why Did I Get Married Too? premiere with Darcea Scott West. Also in town was Rhonda Owen Smith and her husband who came up from Baltimore to see some plays.

  1. Thanks to Miki for the time she takes to keep our classmates informed. Congratulations on your Jet piece. Do your thang, girl!!

Yes, we are trying to connect with people who haven't decided yet or are going but just haven't registered yet. You know we are going to have an absolute ball just hangin' out with each other. Glad to see each other another year!! On these calls, we are also gently suggesting that you contribute to our 2010 Class Gift. I will admit that in the past I had not contributed routinely as an alumnus. At the 25th Reunion I committed to the “5/week for 5 years campaign” as well as an automatic debit that has been deducted from my paycheck over the 5 years. Donating $1,300 over 5 years through the campaign and contributing via the automatic debit was painless. Michael Byrd tells me there is only one other classmate who consistently donated via the $5/week mechanism.

So, I am putting a CHALLENGE out there to my fellow Ubiquity classmates that if you haven’t contributed at least $1,300 in the last 5 years, do it before the 30th Year Reunion Weekend in May. Thank you to all the Ubiquity classmates who have been there for Hampton for so many years through their contributions. I can’t wait to see everyone! Hampton Hugs & Kisses!!!!

    Your Ubiquity Sistah, Margaret
